"I'm a 21 year old student at a large public university. What do I know? Maybe I'm just rationalizing the fact that I'm attending a so-so public college! You'd have to be out of your mind to take my word for anything! But what you should do is look at the data and draw your own conclusions. I will show you the results of some little-known studies that are likely to change the way you think about paying for college forever...I'll offer guidance and practical tips for ways to secure a better, more enjoyable, less stressful, and saner college experience for everyone involved. "A large portion of the advice in this book is hugely counterintuitive, but guess what? I'm living it. I'm not some ivory tower admissions guru spewing advice about how people should make one of the most important decisions of their lives, with no stake in the outcome." (from College on a Dime) College costs are rising at twice the rate of inflation-and much of that increase is being financed by parents looting retirement accounts and students burdening themselves with debt loads that will change the course of their financial lives. It doesn't have to be that way. Armed with data, experience, and a stiff dose of rational analysis Zac Bissonnette explains why so much of the "wisdom" about choosing and financing college is not only wrong but dangerous. In this book, he explains: -Why the name on your child's diploma means less for his future than you think it does. -Why student loans are the next great consumer crisis in America-and how to avoid it. -Why the myth of "fit" won't lead your child to a superior college experience. -Why scholarships and financial aid won't alleviate spiraling college costs-and what will. With a fresh approach to selecting, maximizing, and paying for college, Bissonnette gives parents practical, and often surprising, advice on how to help their kids get a champagne education on a beer budget. The do's and don'ts of college: Do recognize that the amount your kids' friends' parents will be contributing to their educational expenses is likely far higher than it should be. Don't let someone tell you that student loans are not that big of a deal. Yes, they're normal, but so is being broke. Don't fall in love with a college or let your child fall in love with one. Every college is a combination of great professors and lousy ones, cool students and not-so-cool ones. Most of all, do look at college as a rational investment, not some silly coming of age ritual where money is no object.

Education is becoming more and more expensive as time unfolds. For this reason, a number of students are applying for scholarships to supplement their financial needs in school.

One good thing is that there are already various scholarships which are made available today to assist these students. There are the government, individuals, non-profit organizations, private organizations, who augment in granting scholarships.

However, not all are familiar on the ways to access information in applying for these scholarships. Basically, the following are the possible resources you can use in finding the process for scholarship application:

First, you can use the search engines in college scholarships.

Try to visit the free sites that link to scholarships research websites and databases. This tool is convenient for most as compared to the others sources since this can save both time and money.

You can just simply match your profile to numbers of scholarships where you think you qualify. Another advantage in using the college scholarship search engines is that it is always updated. Hence, this can have access to the most recent grants and financial aids made free on the Internet.

You can also link to the other sources. You can inquire through the local community and civic organizations, as well as in police departments and local fire department in your area; they might be offering college scholarships.

Also, the majority of the state governments extend financial assistance to in-state students. Hence, you can take advantage to the local assets.

Most often, the best scholarships are offered to students who excel in the fields of writing, science, math, music, sports as such. These types of scholarships although do not require high grades, a GPA of 2.0 will do. They commonly base on the students’ character, conditions and testimonials as to why you feel legible for the scholarship.

Also, do not expect that you can get the full scholarship by simply placing your time and effort only in one or two particular programs.

Keep in mind, that applying for college scholarship is merely a numbers game. So, it is best that you apply for more scholarships to be assured that you will succeed in one or more of them.

Now, after finding your prospective scholarship in either of the mentioned resources, you should then be able to know the process for college application next.

These are the ways to ensure your success in getting a college scholarship:

Search early. Majority of the scholarships are open for a definite time period. The scholarship will close after the process of application, then, you have to wait for another year to file your application again.

When you start your search early, you will not just be able to find the best scholarships; also, you will be able to apply for more scholarships, which will give you more chance of winning or more of them.

Be careful in reading the requirements. Remember, out of the large numbers of the scholarship, only a few of it will suit to your qualification. So, read carefully the qualifications set for the scholarships that you are applying for. And if they do not fit to your qualification, try looking for another one.

Complete the requirements. Just when you start for the application, you must have readied the requirements already. It is not advisable that you will wait for your sponsor to ask you for it before you arrange it.

Most of all, submit your application early, and anticipate that you will be considered as one of the scholars of the sponsor.

Hispanic students are presented with a number of college scholarships.

Hispanic students along with their families are greeted with a wonderful start in fall when the Hispanic organizations announce that they will be funding guidelines and plans for the entire school year.

This occasion coincide with the time where Hispanic families are conducting their searches for a means to pay the expensive amount of college education for their kids.

Mainly, only the Hispanics that are College bound will be benefited by the said program.

Now, students may go frenzy when selecting which college programs to take, plus also, the number of students who have stopped for a year that are planning to go back to school.

Really, this is not the first time this occurrence has happened. Scholarships are universally popular in providing the disadvantaged and the financially handicapped students an opportunity.

The big Corporations have established themselves in providing scholarships for hispanic students, included here are Coors, General Motors, CNN, MasterCard, Lockheed Martin, Sallie Mae, Wachovia, Office Depot and Time Warner.

But questions may arise. Why do these benevolent companies fund hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide Latino Scholarships? What will they get from these Hispanic students?

The answer is not just confided into one, they support the presented programs for Hispanic scholarship founded by the Latino organizations like the National Association of the Hispanic Journalists, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and National Hispanic Scholarship, majority of them yield from public relations and the positive society results generated by the programs.

For numerous years, the Latinos as a consumer have become progressively more acculturated into America’s lifestyle mainstream. A few of them have fixed a good place in influencing the public and private sectors, while the others adds to the classy consumers.

Part of the development is rooted from the growing awareness of some Latinos who have been ignored to the point of receiving undeserved treatment from lots of companies. This fact goes though since the Census last 2000 mark them as the clients of their goods and services.

Also, the Hispanic purchasing power is rising, for this reason, the conversationalists and the marketers have started to take advantage of the prospects and escalation of the Hispanic markets.

This is because of the estimate of the Multicultural Economy on year 1900-2009 as reported by the Selig Center for Economic Growth ranges to almost $700 billion annually.

Thus, the thousands of dollars funded for Hispanic scholarship is nothing as compared to the purchasing power of these future consumers. Not just that, the scholarship beneficiaries may also join the labor force in the near future.

According to the critics, there is the rising situation wherein the scholarship provided for the Latinos are too much, as fitted to the number of students in need. However, this is countered by the theory that the Hispanic students who graduate and later joins the labor force of the Americans also produces the same program.

But anyhow, the only thing that matters is that the Hispanic students are given more chances to pursue their college education, through the rise of the benefactors and donors.

Meanwhile, the effects will be the same, the Latinos who graduates gives gratitude to the company who have helped them to finish their higher education.

High school days are usually the time when you can fully enjoy your student life, and after you graduate, it’s time for you to go to college. But the truth is, many students are unable to go to college because of certain financial issues. This however, should not hinder you from pursuing higher education. You have options, and all you have to do is to discover what options are available for would-be college students like you.

Having a brilliant career is probably what most students are dreaming about and you can only achieve this if you are able to graduate from college. With all the financial constraints surrounding you, don’t give up easily and check these six options for you to choose from,

1.	scholarships
2.	grants
3.	loans
4.	get a part-time job
5.	join community programs and avail of their services
6.	joining the army

Among these six options, the first two are usually the likely choice of almost any student. You can find scholarships and grants in almost any part of the globe. Perhaps the reason why many students prefer these options is because they don’t have to repay the money that they’ll be using through college.

This is truly an advantage compared to acquiring a loan. A loan needs to be repaid at a specific date and time while scholarships/grants are given to students free.

Talk to your high school guidance counselor, because he/she might know of particular institutions or universities which offer college scholarships and grants. Applicants with artistic, athletic, and scientific talents are also given special scholarships especially those who are in need of serious financial resources. Also, check for online databases that cater to college scholarships which the public can browse freely.

Many students may think that a grant is similar to a college scholarship. It is different in the sense that with a grant, you are required to submit a proposal for a possible future project. And if your proposal is quite good, you can find a sponsor which can fund your way through college.

Scholarships on the other hand, are given to students based on their achievements. So, college scholarships are much easier to obtain than grants.

Any way you choose, you still have to meet their standards. And if the institution or university decides that you are a qualified applicant, then that is only the time that you can enjoy the benefits of being a scholar.

When you are finally awarded with a scholarship or grant, be responsible and do everything you can to maintain your good standing in class. Oftentimes, scholarships and grants require you to maintain certain ratings while you’re in college. You must also be aware that they can also terminate your scholarship/grant if they see it fit.

The money that you’ll get from the scholarship should be used to fund your way to college; like payment of tuition fees and other school fees. Take advantage of your situation and make the most out of your free education. Don’t waste the chance that has been given to you.

The career that you’ve wanted all these years is just waiting for you. So take chances, life is full of many obstacles; but if you are hardworking, diligent, and patient, you can go through your college life with ease.

When it comes to getting a college education, financing is one of the most important considerations that you will need to make. Unfortunately for far too many it is one the last considerations that is made when it comes to the educations of our children. If you are a parent you owe it your child and yourself to plan ahead and plan carefully in order to cover the cost of your child’s education. There are fortunately, a few great ways in which you can do this.

The most common is to begin by opening up an educational savings account for your child (under the age of 18. When you open up an educational savings account for your child, you can contribute up to $2,000 per year per child. This is a combined total contribution however and includes the contributions of grandparents, friends, and family in addition to your own personal contributions. The money from these funds can be withdrawn tax-free as long as they are used for educational purposes.

Educational expenses in this case include books, tuition, fees, supplies, and college room and board provided that your child is at least a part-time student. If you do not use all the funds for your child there are options as far as what to do with the remaining funds in the account. The first option would be to leave the funds in the account and allow the account beneficiary to withdraw them up until the age of 30. There is a penalty involved and the beneficiary will be required to pay income tax on those funds. You could also elect to roll those funds over to the next child under the age of 18 who will have educational expenses in the future.

The money you set aside in these accounts to cover the cost of the education of your child or children is not tax-deductible however, it is a great way to begin saving money and investing in the future of your child. If you begin investing the maximum amount $2,000 per year upon birth your child should have a nice nest egg to help cover educational expenses. If your child is fortunate enough to qualify for scholarships and other sources of financial aid you can turn the funds over as a graduation gift or save it for the next college student in your family that comes along. Either way you’ve saved yourself a good part of the worry that goes along with providing for your family by having this fund set up for your children.

You can sign up for programs like Upromise in order to subsidize your contributions with donations from corporate sponsors as their way of thanking you for buying their products or using their services on any credit cards that you, your friends, and your family members have registered to go into your child’s account. Every edge you give yourself when it comes to investing in the education of your children is an edge worth having. College tuition rates are rising at an alarming rate while corporate expectations of college degrees are rising at the same near lightening speed. This means that a college degree is more critical for our children than in any past generations.

Take the time now to check into securing the future of your children by establishing an educational savings account. Let friends and family know that any gifts they are planning to give your children that involve money would be appreciated if they instead invested in the future of your children rather than the now. You can also ask your friends and family to sign up their credit cards with Upromise in order to provide a little bump in donations to your child’s college savings account. These little steps add up to significant savings over the course of 18 years. You just might find that the investment you are making is adequate to cover the costs of your child’s tuition in full.

With the fast-paced environment that people have today, it is only common for parents to have lesser time for their students who are in school. Not because they want to, it’s just that the busy and competitive office or corporate world forces them to. Little do parents know that their office environment is not the only one that is getting more and more stressful-it’s also the school. Why? Because students are given tons of assignments without tutoring to back them up.

At home, parents are the ones who must take in this responsibility of helping kids with assignments. Since they are older and more mature, they are expected to know more things. However, the traditional techniques and strategies for tutoring might not work in all types of kids. There are those who get easily bored and would just not listen. There are also those who would get easily distracted by the things inside the house and would not pay attention to what the parents are talking about.

Parents who have these kinds of kids, the best way to go about it is to be more creative in making tutoring sessions a fun-filled activity. If things are presented in different and fun ways, the kids will be more interested and enthusiastic all throughout the tutoring session.

How to make tutoring an enjoyable experience

For those who would really want to help their kids who are having trouble in doing and finishing their assignments should find ways to be more creative. If the kids see that the tutorials are presented in a different manner-aside from what they see in school-they will be more cooperative. If parents want to help their kids in completing academic requirements through tutoring, they should:

• Think out of the box. If you are tutoring your child in a certain topic or assignment, it would be best if you use different approaches so he or she won’t be bored. You can present the discussion in a different manner that he or she will enjoy. Out of the box would mean that you are willing to go out of your usual way just for the child to pay attention to what are you teaching.

• Exert more effort to engage. Students-especially those who are young-enjoy activities that are fun-filled and engaging. If you give them help in their assignment, make sure that your attention is one hundred percent with the topic so the child will pay more attention. Remember, if the child sees that you are not really into what you are doing, he or she will also think of other things. When the child is distracted, it will be more difficult for him or her to absorb any information or learn anything.

• Nurture their freedom to learn. Many students get easily stressed out if the tutoring sessions are too strict or rigid. If this is the set up in tutoring at home, the tendency of the child is to pay lesser attention, thus, making them more frantic and could not wait for the time that the tutoring to finish. To avoid this scenario, try to provide a venue where they can be more relaxed. Also, give them ten-minute breaks where they can do the stuff that they want to do.

• Always be creative. This could be best exemplified by using props which usually aid kids that are visual learners. Tutoring could be more effective is the students when they are shown materials that can easily relate them to whatever it is that this being discussed. While holding tutoring sessions, parents could use props such as toys and other materials for each respective subject.

There really are few ways to compare a two-year education with a four-year education that would be fair to either degree program. The truth of the matter is that both are excellent for certain things while both also offer serious limitations. When it comes to pros and cons they both have their own set of both that make excellent food for thoughts.

Two-Year Education

Pros

When it comes to a two-year college program there are several things you should consider in its favor before you take the plunge. First of all, you should keep in mind that the degree or certification at the end of your studies doesn’t necessarily indicate the end of your education. Two-year degrees are excellent starting points for four-year degrees but also allow you the option to venture out into the workplace with your own skills and knowledge that will allow you greater earning potential than a high school diploma. You will also have the benefit of entering the work place much sooner with an associate’s degree than with a bachelor’s degree. Most importantly for many who are limited by budgets, two-year colleges offer an affordable alternative for an education or even the first two years of your education.

Cons

The biggest cons that most people find when it comes to getting a two-year degree is the growing competition for limited jobs. In fact, it is difficult to remain competitive in any industry when there are more and more entering the work force with bachelor’s degrees. It is simply more difficult to maintain a competitive edge with only a two-year degree though it is not impossible. The other obvious con when it comes to two-year college degrees is that fact that some positions will not even consider anyone with less than a four-year degree. This means that you aren’t even in the running required to worry about competition.

Four-Year Degrees

Pros

A bachelor’s degree will earn you far greater earning potential in your lifetime than a high school education without a doubt. It will also place you in a position of serious competition within your chosen field or industry. This means that you will often be given preference when seeking jobs over those who do not have degrees or those with lesser degrees regardless of experience. There is also not enough that can be said about the personal confidence that goes along with earning your degree. You will find that you are much more confident on both a personal and a professional level once you’ve earned your bachelor’s degree.

Cons

The single largest con associated with a bachelor’s degree is the expense. Both in terms of time and money bachelor’s degrees exact a price. You should be certain that you are both willing and able to pay that price before setting out to get your degree.

Regardless of whether a two-year degree or a four-year degree is in your personal best interest at the moment neither are a waste of time or effort. I hope that you will eventually seek a four-year degree, as this will give you a competitive edge in business, however, even the smallest improvement in your education level can mean big changes over the course of your lifetime. Sometimes it helps to improve your education in steps. Take one class at a time until you have your associate’s degree then repeat until you have your bachelor’s degree. Good luck!
